Lanzarote is known across the globe as the ‘Island of Volcanoes’, not least because of the unexpected landscapes made up of volcanic caves, lakes of lava and craters. However, more recently it has gained a reputation as the Canary Island’s premier superyacht destination – The perfect weather conditions alongside very little rainfall make Lanzarote a year-round favourite amongst private and commercial superyacht owners.
Furthermore, Lanzarote plays host to several high-level competitions, including the Volvo Ocean Race, IMOCA 60 training campaigns, RC44 World Championship events, Mini Transats and the RORC Transatlantic Race, making it one of the top destinations for yacht racing and sailing competitions.
Yacht Clearance & Berthing Procedures
Yachts can be pre-cleared into commercial Canary-Island ports and marinas in advance. The European regulations insist all passports are presented to immigration on arrival and departure. The crew passports will be stamped if yachts are arriving from a non-EU port, or when leaving to a non-EU port.
If the vessel weighs more than 500 GT, it will receive pilot assistance when arriving at, or departing from the port. For yachts less than 500GT, pilotage is not compulsory, but it is advisable for captains wanting a little extra advice from local experts.
Lanzarote: The Undiscovered Superyacht Destination?
It’s no secret that Lanzarote has some of the most attractive beaches and scenery in the Canary Islands. There are countless fun activities to partake in, such as kite surfing, sailing and diving. The island is drenched in rich culture, fine dining and friendly locals.
Traditionally yachting season in the Canaries stretches from June to November. Although in recent years this has been expanding, with more yachts stopping for refuelling, storing and charters. With annual average temperatures of around 21ºC, very limited rainfall and low humidity, Lanzarote is the ideal destination for yachts and superyachts throughout the year.
So, if you’re unfamiliar with Lanzarote as a superyacht destination then here are three marinas you need to visit during your next yacht charter.
Marina Lanzarote is located in Arrecife, the capital of the island on the east coast. Arrecife is a perfect destination to berth your yacht, with everything you could need right on your doorstep. Home to fantastic restaurants and historical landmarks, such as Castillo San Gabriel & Castillo San Jose, you can easily get lost exploring the beautiful city of Arrecife.

There is a great chandlery and a wide range of shopping facilities available just a short walk from the marina.
Furthermore, the marina is protected from swell, making it the perfect sanctuary for both commercial vessels.
Puerto Calero Marina
Located on the warm, beautiful and sheltered south coast is Puerto Calero Marina. Puerto Calero is Lanzarote’s most established yacht harbour, having hosted yacht captains, crew and their guests from across the globe for over 35 years.
